The Morals Of John Proctor

Can you define what it means to be moral? Do you know if you are a moral person? I will use this paper to highlight the personal morals of one character named John Proctor from Arthur Miller's “ The Crucible”. A person who I think relates to John Proctor is Mother Teresa; she was a wonderful woman who was associated with compassion and kindness. She had many morals in her life that she followed Just like John Proctor. One moral that they both shared was selflessness. They both weren't asked to help to do things in their communities, they went out of their way to help what they could. The definition of ethical means, “being in accordance with the rules or standards for right conduct or practice and of moral, the distinction between right and wrong” (dictionary.com). In The Crucible, John Proctor suffers the public shame of confessing to his adultery with Abigail to no avail. In prison, he eventually confesses so that he can live with and care for his family, but finally he decides to die rather than lose his good name and admitting to witchcraft; he then refuses to sign the paper. He had a chance to lie and live free but Proctor knew what he had to do to set things right. Him having the knowledge and capability of doing things right made him think more clearly then ever in the situation. The other day i had found a wallet in my 6th period class that had 22 dollars in it, then i had notified the teacher and she said not many people at the school would have turned it in and she made a big deal out of it. He believed one would have to be truthful, courageous,hardworking, and unselfish to be a good person. Mother Teresa and John Proctor both gave their own time to help their own communities. Proctor did not want to hurt anyone, abigail was simply a temptation which is what one usually goes through in life. If you look at all the things John Proctor had intentionally done they were all good. I think it's hysterical that now and days in our society people point out the flaws that someone has done in their life but no one will remember the good deeds the person has
