There are many times in a person’s life where you wish you could go back in time and simply enjoy a moment that you wish you could forever hold on to. For the main character in the poem “Ex basketball-player” that moment or moments came from the game he once loved more than anything, basketball. Throughout the poem the author, John Updike, uses plenty of profound word usage, imagery, and theme to illustrate those moments as well as the main characters former way of life.
