Juan de Marcos González is a composer, and musician from Cuba. He is known for creating bands like a traditional Folk music band called Sierra Maestra and the Afro-Cuban All Stars. He was influenced by music for much of his life. His father was a singer, also other family members played different musical instruments. Before he ended up in the music industry, Marcos attended college and graduated with a doctorate in Hydraulic Engineering as well as English and Russian language studies. Today Juan de Marcos is known for his lively musical compositions and has been nominated for many awards including multiple Grammy’s and a Latin Billboard award.

Silvio Rodriguez is a singer from Havana, Cuba and is known for starting the Nueva Trova movement which started during the 1980s. This movement emerged in response to the government changing the political and social structures of Cuba.

Cuban Jazz Bands started becoming prevalent in Cuban society during the 1920s. This type of jazz music fused traditional and popular Cuban music with jazz styles from North America. Morales started playing the guitar when he was 12 years old and was influenced by the Hispanic guitar band Los Panchos. Although Morales ended up in the music industry, he went to college to study medicine and after graduating from college was a salesman for medical products. Morales left the medical world in 1959 and started his musical career where he was a part of the Teatro Musical de La Habana orchestra, and later in 1967 formed an 18-piece orchestra called Orquesta Cubana de Música Moderna. In this orchestra he met Carlos Averhoff and would later form the jazz band Irakere in 1973, where he spent the rest of his professional career touring with the jazz band as well as teaching music classes at the Escuela de Superación
