The story, “The Story of An Hour,” written by Kate Chopin. The protagonist, Louise is described with emotions after hearing the death of her husband, Brently, she locks herself in her room to mourn the loss, but unexpectedly begins to feel happiness. Louise’s relationship with her husband is so oppressive, that his sudden death was thought to be a reasonable means of escape. The authour uses various approaches, such as symbolism, and irony. Imagery gave the reader a sense of Louise’s escape from oppression through her view of an “open window” (Chopin, Para. 4), and she suffers from a “heart problem” that ironically ends her life at the end. The theme is essentially a longing of freedom for women.
