“Nothings far when one wants to get there” Queen Marle said it so herself in one of her quotes. Given the fact that some people will never fully give up to achieve their goals, proves some of us humans to be strong. Being strong doesn’t really have much to do with our physical ability, but more with our mind set. One person with of the strongest mindset I’ve ever witnessed, is Kate De Vries. In the novel, Airborn by Kenneth Oppel, an airship crash lands on an island claimed by pirates. For example, when Kate is explaining to Matt how she can handle whatever is out in the wilderness, she is showing signs of how audacious she is. She is going out into the wilderness blind and not having a clue what is on this island. The text says “Fine but we can't just go wandering into the forest. It's not safe.” “It's perfectly safe.” She kept walking.” (pg 197). This quote clearly shows how she is acting fearless and just jumping into an unknown area, where at the time they weren't sure if this island was inhabited by anyone. Accordingly, Kate had drugged Miss Simpkins to knock her out and go out to the forest more. In the text it states “All I did was give her a dose of her own sleeping mixture” (pg 324). This clearly shows how much guts she has to drug her own chaperone. Moreover, Kate is trying to persuade Matt to come along with her on her little adventure that she is eager to get too. In the text it states ¨Reason, how’s this for reason: this is the same island my grandfather saw.¨ (194). This quote shows how eager she is to be one with her grandfather and continue his research on these mystical creatures. In conclusion, it is clear to the reader of how eager Kate is to go on her adventure and step in her grandfather's footsteps. Throughout the novel, Kate shows numerous examples of her being Determined. When Kate gives Matt her grandfather's old passages in his journal she is determined for Matt to believe her. My proof is “You think like the others,” she said, and there was new hardness in her voice.”(pg
