King louis XIV who is one of the most successful kings in the history of France and also known as “Louis le grand”, which translates to Louis the great in English. When he came to power, France had gotten into a lot of wars. These were the war of Devolution, the Dutch war, the war or the league of Augsburg, and the war of the Spanish succession which were very costly. This left France in a lot of debt. By the time King Louis XIV died, France had two major issues, one was France had a lot debt and couldn't afford to pay the debt, and the second reason was because his Successor King Louis XV, who was only five years old at the time, was too young to rule a country. The chief minister, who is Cardinal Fleury, is the one who took control and ruled until king Louis XV was old enough to rule.
