Well, first of all, let me explain what a politic and a principle are. A political decision is calculated, and sometimes in one’s self interest, while a principled decision is based on strongly held beliefs. Who is L.B.J? L.B.J stands for Lyndon Baines Johnson, and he became president after president John F. kennedy was assassinated. On July, 2nd, 1964, President Johnson of Texas signed the civil rights bill that prohibited discrimination of education, voting, employment and other areas of American life. But before becoming president, he Worked in Cotulla, Texas as a teacher. When Johnson was teaching his students at the Welhausen Elementary School in 1929, he mostly had Mexican-American students. Usually, the students would come to school hungry without food or breakfast, because they were poor and very few could speak English. Although they were poor, they showed great respect to the school by dressing properly and looking very organized. In this case Johnson had done his teaching for principle, because he took his first job there.(For the kids). If we fast forward to 1963 and 1964 there are charts asking the public about Kennedy and Johnson administration. While most people said Kennedy was going to fast in 1963, on the other hand, people said Johnson was about right in 1964. …show more content…
I believe he did it for principle, because most of his decisions were for the great good of the country. Although some were for self interest or to please the public but mainly they were for his belief. His principle decisions such as teaching the children and his response to senator Russell. However his political decisions were the public voting on charts and how he did things in office.(self interest). As well the other decision like leading the parade “politically” not in his belief. Therefore L.B.J signed the civil rights bill for principle decisions because I believe he did it for those children and he did it for the greater
