Loss. Loss is a terrible thing and sometimes in life people may suffer loss. There are mainly two choices people can make when they go through loss, some give up and get very down or some people may get over it and move on. Both Last seen leaving written by caleb Roehrig and Who killed Christopher Goodman written by Allan Wolf have characters that suffer loss and the message in both is to move on. Last seen Leaving is a very intense book that goes through a mind of a highschool boy whose girlfriend goes missing. They used to spend every night together but lately they haven’t, and this worried Flynn. But Flynn made a choice and that choice was to move on instead of mourning on his loss. This choice involved him being himself and coming out that he was gay and moving on. However though the author showed this through only Flynn point of view. What this means is the author Caleb Roehrig shows that people have to move on when they face loss, and he shows this through only Flynn. For example Flynn was in the car with Kaz who was close to being his boyfriend and he said “I grabbed Kaz’s hand and we drove off” (Roehrig 321) This means that he moved on because he was with Kaz and they were in a relationship shown by him grabbing his hand. This does not directly show that he moved on but one can see that he is no longer living his life and every moment of it feeling the pain of losing January, but he however moved on with his life. in many books authors do many things very differently, what this means is they show stuff differently and these two books were great examples of that. Who Killed Christopher Goodman was a very interesting book. A teenger who had just moved to a new town made a great impression on everyone in the town. He was thought about as a very good person by everyone and that’s why it was such a surprise when he was murdered. Unlike the book Last seen Leaving the author of Who Killed Christopher Goodman Allan Wolf, showed the theme of facing loss by moving on through many different characters through the book and how they got over the loss by moving on. This was shown when in the book there were letters written by the characters in the book and each of them said what they wrote in their letters after Christopher died. For example one of the characters in the book named Hazel who was one of Christopher's friends wrote a letter and said “In your honor, next year I am doing a project for you” (Wolf 262) This is significant because instead of her drowning in the loss of Christopher she got over it and moved on by making a project in his honor. This was very clear as the author showed it through a letter from the character to Christopher, the way that she was trying to get over the loss was by doing stuff to honor him. This shows she is moving on because instead of staying sad about it
