School is such a big part of childrens lives. One will go to school for 12 or more years. Thats around 5% of the average person's life. Its the place where one will grow in intelligence and knowledge, guiding them for what is yet to come in their life, but there is an issue. School starts way too early. So early in the process that students brains can completely encode the information they have been given. For a more effective and incorporating school system, schools must start later in the day. Around the globe, many experts advocate for a later school start time. Even as little as one hour later can help students get the proper rest they need for the day. Improved attendance and decreased tardiness are impactful and beneficial effects of a later start time. An article by Sleep Foundation provides some insight on why these benefits are the product of a later start time. "Late bedtimes and early school start times are a contributing factor to a lack of adolescent sleep. A lack of sleep impacts overall student health, wellbeing, and academic success, and it can even have long-term health consequences." The average student has a daily struggle waking up and getting ready for school, sometimes not even bothering to get ready on time, leading to overwhelming tarties and terrible attendance. This could be a simple fix with just a push back on school start time. Some, however, will argue against these claims, even with the overwhelming evidence supporting it. Others state the earlier school starting times have benefits for work schedules and creates academic advantages, but this is just not true.
