Personal Narrative: The Book Thief

After discovering the secret world of fiction I have never left home without taking a book with me. I have my favourites, but usually I can read anything – from Harry Potter to Anna Karenina to Hamlet. Books have inspired most of my actions, adventures and ideas in life and my university choices are not any different. A number of books I have read have been either historical novels or based on a historical event. I discovered one of my favourites The Book Thief by Markus Zusak when I was about 12 years old, however the book stayed on my mind and by now I have read it three times already and I still love it. This novel started my interest in Nazi Germany and inspired me to look into it in greater depth. A few years back I decided to do my part in improving the school`s environment and thus I joined my school`s student council. However, through my school I found even more opportunities to make even a small difference, one of them being the possibility to join an organization Serve the City and start helping out in a soup kitchen. This taught me a lot of who I am and how I can help others even through the smallest things by just listening to their story. Believing in stories and their power this suited me greatly. As I am a people`s person I managed to make even such a personal experience as reading a book a social situation. This happened through joining my school`s book club where each month we choose a new book and meet to discuss it. These meetings newer stop to surprise me as with every book others bring out things I did not notice about the novel while I do the same for them, it definitely made me feel more confident when sharing my opinions and also learn from others and when necessary change my
