Leadership can be defined 30 different ways. Leadership has been described as guiding others to complete a task and others believe it means motivating members of a team to be their best selves. Over the years, I've tried to learn to do a much better job listening actively, making sure I really understand the other person's point of view, learning from them, and using that basis of trust and collaboration to inspire and empower. Nolan and the students could not believe Mr. Keating was leaving. The students were encouraged by the transformational leadership that Mr. Keating presented so therefore they stood on their desk to show their support of Mr. Keating. While Mr. Nolan is presenting a coercive power type of leadership. The students were very resistant to his commands. The clip shows the power of the different type of leadership approaches that were presented in the movie. I believe that the leadership style that Mr. Nolan presented was appropriate for the situation because the students were showing their support of their teacher and it was disruption to his class. The approach he used was not effective because the students did not listen to his commands. There is not an appropriate or inappropriate time for this type of leadership because of the actions of the students. The style that was represented is the leader and member relations from the Fiedler Model. The Vizzini did not trust the Man in Black so therefore he challenged the whole process of finding out which drink was the poison drink. This is the level of trust and confidence that your team has in a leader. A leader who is more trusted and has more influence with the group is in a more favorable situation than a leader who is not trusted. (https://www.mindtools.com/pages/article/fiedler.htm) In this situation the Man in Black knew he was not trusted so he used that to his advantage to lead the villain in the direction he wanted him to go. This was a very appropriate style of leadership because in the end the goal was succeeded.
The Blind Side Transformational leadership is demonstrated throughout the scene of this movie. The mother uses her expertise of her child to motivate him to do better on the football field. She gave him a vision that he could understand and she was successful at achieving her goal. The coach in the clip represented an authoritative leadership style which was inappropriate because he was hitting a brick wall with getting Michael to respond to his demands.
