Statement of Facts:
Dr. Thomas Furlow failed to extract an infected tooth from Mr. John Brown
Mr. Brown ignored Dr. Furlow’s recommendation to return and went on vacation instead, causing his tooth to become even further infected and requiring hospitalization.
Dr. Furlow was served with the complaint on March 1, and stated he had 20 days to file an answer or judgement could be entered against him.
Furlow took complaint home, placed it in his safe located in his study and called us, when he told us when he had been served, we made his appointment to come in on March 19th.
On March 18th, Dr. Furlow’s home was robbed and the contents in his safe, along with money and jewelry were taken. Fearing for his and his family’s safety, he went to his mother-in-law’s residence, which is around four hours away. The robbery caused Dr. Furlow to forget about his appointment with our office.
Upon returning to his home on Monday, March 22, Dr. Furlow called and rescheduled his appointment for March 23.
