Ethnic classes are seen as “Anti-American” when in reality it is a class that teaches students about their culture. They are often brain-washed into believing everyone that is not Caucasian is a minority. Ethnic classes are not teaching children to revolt or start a war against America, rather it is to teach them that “Ethnic studies is the interdisciplinary study of difference—chiefly race, ethnicity, and nation, but also sexuality, gender, and other such markings—and power, as expressed by the state, by civil society, and by individuals.” by Northern Arizona University. In the article Lies My Teacher Told Me by Loween is an article that explains about how people of color are fed lies because that is what a “standard” history class is. When in reality by keeping traditional classes “it can become something of a burden for students of color, children of working-class parents, girls who notice the dearth of female historians or of those who have not achieved socioeconomic success… than blaming the victim. This is important because the standard history classes affect females, parents of working class, and those who have not achieved socioeconomic success. History is affecting a major group, which means that by keeping traditional classes it is suppressing a major group of people. In fact, many textbooks are not historically accurate. Frances Fitzgerald’s 1979 study America Revised was a bestseller, but it made no impact on the industry pointing out how textbooks ignored or distorted the Spanish impact on Latin America. This goes to show that not everything in history books are accurate which leads to mistranslation on students and for future generations. The big impact that this leads to is ignorance on history and can lead to wars or continuance of racism
