Children and teens are typically quick when it comes to decision making, but is that putting their lives at risk? Sure, kids need to have some decision making introduced to them as they grow up, but to much may lead to their lives being affected. In the well known Shakespearean play, Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare, Romeo and Juliet are teenagers that have the advantage of making their own decisions as if they were adults. Although, lifestyles were different back then, these life altering decisions affected the main characters lives tremendously. As these two lovestruck teens fell deeper and deeper in love with each other, their decisions lead to both of them losing their lives. Any life choice that may end in death or a great deal of hurt should not be made, which is why the teenage mind isn’t ready to make life altering decisions. In an article that argues that teens are ready to make life altering decisions called “Living with Children: Debunking the ‘teenage brain’ argument”, the author wrote about a certain population of teens: “there are plenty of young American teenagers who are responsible, truthful, trustworthy, hard-working, obedient and respectful” (Rosemond). Although there may be teens that are responsible and can make good decisions, there are also teens that find it difficult to make those kinds of decisions. With those kind of teenagers living in the world, there is the risk of having those bad decisions affect others. People have to be aware of these people; people may be stuck on the thought that there are good teenagers in the world and that saying that they can’t make life altering decisions is wrong, but people need to think about the other percentage of the teenagers that can’t make good decisions.
