In President Lincolns Second Inaugural Address, he spoke about how important free choice is. Lincoln was mad about how the civil war started even though “both parties depreciated war, but one of them would make war rather then let the nation survive, and the other would accept war rather then let it perish.” He then said that praying and hoping will not end the war, because if both sides prayed to G-d to win then who will G-d pick. So Lincoln believed that man had to end the war himself. He said, “If G-d wills that it continue until all the wealth piled by the bondsman’s two hundred and fifty years of unrequited toil shall be sunk, and until every drop of blood drawn with the lash shall be paid by another drawn with the sword, so it must be said the judgments of the lord are true and righteous altogether. Lincoln believed that everything happened because of G-ds will but men have free choice. When Lincoln was asked if he though G-d was on his side he said, “ I don’t know but I must have Kentucky”. He knew that G-d had a will and a plan but he believed he was responsible to do what he can to end the war. …show more content…
He wrote about past catastrophic events and said those events were ok since the people who caused them clearly had “G-d on [our] side”. He forgave the Germans for killing six million people since “G-d on [our] side”. He said he isn’t afraid of farther war with Russia since “G-d on [our] side”. It appears from reading Bob Dylan’s poem that he does not believe in free will. He has said that all the horrific events in the history of mankind and all the events that will occur in the future of mankind are all ok, no matter how bad or how evil, since “G-d on [our] side”. Bob Dylan does not believe that humans have the ability to choose to act on their
