Abraham Lincoln wants a better future for our nation. During Lincoln’s second Inaugural Address he states the topics of politics, slavery, and states’ rights; President Lincoln’s use of rhetorical question, pathos, and ethos explains what his purpose is. Lincoln evokes emotion as he explains what this nation’s future must consist of “With malice toward none, with charity…lasting peace among ourselves and with all nations.” Lincoln communicates to his audience that this nation will rise up and work together to create peace with one another as well as with foreign peoples. With this nation finally bringing peace and unity individuals may see their lives being changed in a way that is beneficial for themselves, and possibly even their families.
