Louis Pasteur was known as the father of microbiology and studied the rhabdovirus, or rabies virus. Rhabdovirus is a disease that affects the central nervous system and the symptoms are fever, headache, tiredness, drooling or foaming at the mouth, and ultimately death. After an animal or human is bitten by a rabid animal, the virus is excreted through the saliva into the wound (Rabies, 2017). Through studying the spinal cords of dogs, Pasteur was able to determine there was a curative agent in the spines of dogs that could function to attack the rabies virus.
