alty and betrayal play a prominent role throughout Shakespeare’s play, King Lear. It is one of the critical and most common motifs repeated throughout this play. In the play, you have fathers betraying daughters, vice versa, and the mirrored situation in Gloucester and his sons. Overall, betrayal represents how quickly power can be gained and how quickly it can be lost. Loyalty represents that no matter what the situation was, the ones who were thought less of, remained loyal.
