Women took on many roles during the American Revolutionary War with some being helpful or some being dangerous. For example, one women that came to be known as an important figure in the war was Lucy Knox. Lucy was known to be aloof at times, but most of the times she was known to be kind and generous. For example, she left her entire Loyalist family, to never see them again, and marry the man she had loved since she was 14 years old. Her greatest contribution to the American Revolutionary War cam when she helped support the Continental Army encamped at Valley Forge for the bitter winter. She became a supportive and caring hostess to the cold and hungry officers by giving them food and cozy blankets. The soldiers began to call her Madam Knox
