For years African Americans had no voice and were severely mistreated. They faced the dangers of being lynched, police brutality and many could not find a decent job based solely on the color of their skin. But, when a preacher from Atlanta, Georgia helped begin the Civil rights movement this all began to change. This man was Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Martin Luther King Jr is well known as a talented writer of oratory. His speeches are characterized by a persuasive, influential and charismatic style that reflects the struggles African Americans and other minorities faced in everyday life
Racial discrimination was very prominent in the united states in the lifetime of Dr.King. It was especially bad in the southern states of the United States.
