They describe history as a power and class struggle. There was always an oppressor and the oppressed and a fight, which never ended well. Society had complicated arrangements of social orders with many different ranks. The lower class was exploited time and again. There was always struggle, even in the modern bourgeois society.

The unique features of “our epoch” was the simplified class antagonisms, instead of multiple ranks, there were only two. The bourgeoisie and the proletariat were separated into two groups, and had a constant hostile relationship. No longer are there guilds, but a system of manufacturing. The labor of different guilds was replaced with division of labor within a single workshop. The bourgeoisie have complete political power because of the establishment of the Modern Industry of the world market. They hold all the money. Social conditions were uncertain and constantly changing, which is unlike any other time period. The bourgeoisie are “creating a world in [their] own image” because of the global distribution of the technology and commodities. The proletariat are unionizing, with the help of improved communications. Workers all over can connect with one and another because of the new communication technologies. Railways can connect them together quickly, which leads to a faster overthrowing. The proletariat must settle matters with their countries bourgeoisie, and then the global class struggle will be
