Massachusetts Bay Colony was one of the original settlement in Massachusetts made by the English. The colony was settled in 1630 under Governor John Winthrop. After Winthrop arrived to the new colony he soon found himself in a struggle for survival. The settlers in the colony grew sick from famine and disease. During the time of disease and sickness, surrounding Indians planned an extermination. In the winter times, more settlers died from disease and many even froze to death. After months of suffering, supplies arrived from England and this gave the new colony more time. Over 10 years later the articles of confederation were signed and each colony retained a distinct and separate government including Massachusetts.
