Maya Angelou’s, a poet and novelist was born in St. Louis, Missouri, who published 3many autobiographies, several books of poetry, and many more. Angelou was a civil right activists. Written in the late 1960’s Angelou’s offers her childhood experience as an example of how life of a young African-American during a time where people were segregated based on race. Angelou’s purpose for writing I Know Why The Caged Bird Sings was to recall her life and explore the incidence of her childhood and how they affect her today.
