In Maya Angelou’s speech I believe that she meant that the world has gone through a lot. It has gone through its worst with people hating each other for the color of their skin. She is surprised to be living in a world that almost everyone gets along with one another. She had outlived the racial and crucial world that we had before, when segregation was still around. I can imagine being in her position, living in a world full of hate and to finally see people getting along. It would make me really proud to see how much humanity has changed.
