Advantages and Disadvantages of MeToo Movement The MeToo Movement began in 2006 by Tarana Burke, who was a survivor of domestic violence, created a social reform to not only put a stop to sexual harassment/abuse but to create many pathways of healing for survivors. I: According to the Me Too Movement website, “17,700,000 women have reported sexual assault since 1998” (metoomvmt.org). P: This movement has created a big impact on our younger generation of men with much confusion. Almost 70% of the young people surveyed said they wished "it was easier to understand what is/is not sexual harassment." And it feels just horrible for men, especially if they did not commit it. E: It's going to be really hard for men to force rules on women, especially knowing that they may accuse them of a certain act in the workplace, so it causes that really bad anxiety for men to work with women. I think it's important to create a balance that's equal for both genders to be heard. According to this website Forbes.com, this is a public conversation between two random individuals. ‘I know you’re innocent, but why don’t you just fall on your sword in order to help the #metoo movement?’ Our society should not be supporting this movement in the wrong ways. This should be supported only when it's right, it's not far for men to feel a certain way or be accused of something they did not do. To support the movement, for the correct doings, not creating a toxic environment and support false doings. Many famous celebrities have had their careers destroyed because of false accusations. Women think it's okay to do this because they are trying to support a movement, but it's for the wrong reasons there's no type of fairness. How are men able to protect themselves from this? The role of men in the me too movement also plays a big impact because the #MeToo calls on men to recognize that their own human potential is interconnected with the value and human potential of all other people, according to the New York Times. The report found, out of 201 prominent men that had lost their jobs after public allegations of sexual harassment, nearly half of their replacements were women. Following the #MeToo men being fired, many public figures were being held accountable. So many men are really unsure of hiring women at different workplaces and many women may fear men and not be around them. Social media twists all sorts of false information and can create differences. Understanding why the #Me Too movement is causing harm to the way men is because it makes men unsure to be around and interact with them without seeming like a weirdo. many men feel scared to approach women because women are ever quick to act on men if they approach them a certain way that may make them feel uncomfortable. but men also feel uncomfortable because of the judgement that women give men by just standing next to them or in a workplace asking a question, it can be anything.
