Although our society has come incredibly far in terms of civil rights and social justice as a whole, there are still a frighteningly large amount of people who judge and assume traits of others based off of their culture. As someone who has personally heard a peer say, “I think Donald Trump is right with the Mexican Immigration issue. Clearly not all, but I’d say most Mexicans are bringing drugs or rape and crime,” I fear what people truly feel deep down, what they don’t show on the surface. The prejudice and ignorant assumptions of so many people need to stop. You cannot blame an entire group for what a handful of them have done. Regardless of the uncovering that exposed the prejudiced stereotypes many hold to them, there were still a shocking number of Hispanics who voted for Trump and even joined with supporters who follow the idea that most Mexican immigrants are criminals. I’d suspect most of the Hispanics don’t truly view immigrants based off the poor representation they are unfortunately given, but instead put up with it because they agreed with other views held by Donald. So many of these immigrants are coming for a change and for a shot at the life they dream about. We do not have the right to deny them of this chance just because of the bad who travel with them. Trump has been recorded calling women numerous things such as “Fat. Pig. Dog. Slob. Disgusting animal”, as well as things like “Gold Diggers” and has shown complete disrespect to them by publicly making lists of women he wanted to have sex with and labeling himself irresistible by treating women “like sh*t” (Cohen). Although an outstanding number of people were outraged after the release of his recorded “locker room” humor in which he basically said he can sexually assault women with no trouble. Many of his women supporters weren’t bothered and stayed in full support of his views. Blatant disrespect and completely immoral comments to them and their view had no shift. These women and men who feel that beliefs like that aren’t disgusting or degrading have a very different view than others on how our society in this country should run.
