Migraines, “affecting seventeen percent of women and six percent of men” (Evans, E Whitney, et al.), are a disabling condition that can cause a severe headache or abdominal pain. This particular condition causes over “112 million bedridden days per year” (Evans, E Whitney, et al.). Treatment sought out by individuals who experience migraines “exceeds $24 billion annually” (Evans, E Whitney, et al.). In the past articles I have reviewed, researchers performed studies to see if food allergens or just food in general affected migraines. Researchers, scientists, and physicians have debated the hypothesis of food affecting migraines for decades, but a strong correlation has yet to be found (Evans, E Whitney, et al.).

IgG is a common antibody in the body that is associated with food allergies ("IgG Food Allergy Test + Candida"). Researchers should look into the possibility of patients who have migraines having a bad reaction to sodium, which would be a sulfite sensitivity. Sulfites are chemicals that are found naturally in and added into many of the foods we eat. Although only about one in one hundred people have a sulfite deficiency, it is possible that people who have migraines have this condition ("What Is Sulfite Sensitivity?"). If these researchers in the article found women with migraines consumed more sodium, it is possible they could be more sensitive to sodium (Evans, E Whitney, et al.). In order to test this, participants would need to take part in the elimination diet. This would involve removing sodium from the participants diet and then bring sodium back into their diets (Finocchi, Cinzia, and Sivori). If the onset of migraine occurs, sodium could be a food that causes migraines in some
