How many people have been in a situation where they had to pick others to be on their sports team? Now how many boys have picked a boy to be on their team over a girl, never mind the fact that her skill level was better than his? Why is it that females are misrepresented in this way when it comes to athletics? A lot of people all over the world perceive females as naturally weaker and less skillful athletes than males. This single story is all over the place on the playground, on TV, even in the AAU sports leagues. I watched this movie called Million Dollar Baby and a young women wanted to become a boxer. She needed someone to train her, but no trainers wanted to train her because she was female. They didn’t want to be responsible if she was …show more content…
So, the belief in which females are less than when it comes to sports becomes way stronger at the high school level. My sophomore year I was in a PE class and one of our units was football. Now by this time in my life everyone kind of new already that I was a good athlete, so during this football unit I would be picked to be on a team before some of the boys were. Here is the thing though, when we actually started playing the game I would barely touch the ball. I would just running up and down the field for nothing. This didn’t feel right at all, so the next time we played I made myself the quarterback. When I did this I showed those boys that I was a contender and could help us win. Track is kind of an iffy one because on one hand track and field is mostly an individual sport, but on the other hand there are teams within like the relays. With this I feel relays could be made up of the fastest 4 people rather than the fastest 4 girls and the fastest 4 boys. Boys have to run against boys and girls have to run against girls even in practice even though some of us girls are faster than some of those boys. Females are not always as weak as people think, I showed that to my classmates in my PE class and people can see that when a girl is faster than a
