In the bottom left corner of the painting you can see two men exchanging money. It looks as if the man on the right is a cashier of sorts. I think that this is an important event in this picture because money was a very “wish-washy” thing. After the fall of the Roman empire, many people went back to bartering for anything they needed, and money became something of the past. But in the High Middle Ages, along with the rise of merchant and craft guilds, came the use of money. Coins to be specific. There were several different types of coins; Pound, Shilling, Pence, Penny, and Halfpenny. Along with these coins came jobs involving money. Moneychangers, who exchanged coins for other coins, with a small fee. Pawnbrokers, who exchanged money for land.
