The Monroe Doctrine was issued in 1823 by President James Monroe. This doctrine was an American foreign policy that prohibited Britain from interfering with American and other countries of the Western Hemisphere affairs. With this doctrine, Monroe was able to change American foreign policy, and this eventually led to the uprising of nationalism. Also, with this new policy it was able to lead to formations of new political parties. The Louisiana Purchase, Embargo Act 1807, and the War of 1812 were some of the events that influenced the Monroe Administration to issue the Monroe Doctrine. These three helped established a protected union, while providing a political background.
First of all, The Louisiana Purchase happened in 1803 when the U.S. purchased the land from France. The U.S. paid approximately $15 million for the territory and the U.S. was also able to control the Mississippi river due to the purchase. The Louisiana Purchase influenced the Monroe Administration to issue the Monroe Doctrine because of the issues the U.S. was having with Spain at the time since initially Spain gave that land back to France. Although this mainly prevented the U.S. from trading with France and England, this ultimately had a drastic effect on the U.S. and its people who made a living out of trading. This act was able to influence the Monroe Doctrine because the doctrine’s main goal was to prevent European interference with other countries. The act was called to restrict trade with other countries, especially with Britain.
