Taking my lesson on the attributes color, shape and size of two dimensional shapes into consideration I believe it went really well. My class really enjoy having books read to them, so starting it off with the book Mouse Shapes was a great way to gain their engagement. Along with gaining their engagement, it also activated their prior knowledge by reviewing the shapes we were going to be working with and allowed me to subtly point out the attributes of color, shape and size. To do this I used a mixture of lower-level and higher-level questions, that way I was able to reach the range of students. By the time the book was over the shapes were fresh in their minds and they subconsciously had the attributes in their minds, so when we went over my paper I prepared it was a breeze. I told them the title of the paper, Sorting, and then read the sentence underneath, We can sort by…, then I went through each one. I started with color, the easiest, and then shape then size. While going through I guided support when needed, but the only one they needed help with was size. They knew they were smaller and bigger they just needed guidance in getting the word size. After going over all the different ways of sorting I then told them that a way to describe all the sorting techniques as attributes. Each group was assigned either shape, size and color. They got about fifteen minutes to sort their manipulatives, then we came back together as a class and went around to each center. The students decided how the group sorted their manipulatives and discussed how they came up with their answers. This was very beneficial because I was able to see how well the understood the concept and they got a review of the different ways to
