Explain what was effective and why. The focus of this lesson was on making inferences. The mystery trash activity was very entertaining for the students! I loved seeing the students’ noses curl up when I told them we were going to look through some trash. The students enjoyed looking through the bag of items, making inferences, and coming up with their own creative scenarios about the new neighbors. The students realized that people can have the same set of clues, yet make different inferences based on their background knowledge and experiences. The students were very attentive during this activity and eager to share with the group.
