The article talks about Nacirema culture. I have heard of this article before, so I do know that the article examines American culture. The article presents American or Nacirema culture as unique/exotic. One of the main aspects of Nacirema culture that is brought up is the ritual of health. People of Nacirema feel that their bodies alone are ‘ugly.’ Miner uses wording to make the ritual seem out of the norm to other cultures. The ritual described is actually bathroom. The author uses words like ‘private,’shrines,’ and ‘initiated.’ Medicine cabinets are also described with words such as ‘potions,’ ‘secret language,’ and ‘worshipper.’ Miner wrote the act of brushing teeth and going to the dentist as a foreign ritual as well.
