Help Mother Earth and the Native Americans
The government has done it again. Through their reckless actions, they are doing more harm than good. The government is going into places where they do not belong and taking what they want all while disregarding what others think or the effects of their actions. Currently, there is a pipeline being built that was authorized by the government. The pipeline, starting in North Dakota, going through South Dakota and Iowa, and ending in Illinois, is being built for oil and is called the Dakota Access Pipeline. The pipeline, when finished, will be 1172 miles long and will cost 8.7 billion dollars and is being built by the Army Corps Engineers.

Native Americans are supposed to be treated as autonomous nation but instead get treated with very little respect. Mark Sundeen pointed out in his online paper, “What’s happening in standing rock, about the protest on the Dakota Access Pipeline. “At one time, the Army Corps of Engineer was required to consult with the Native Americans before they are permitted to build a pipeline on the natives land but the natives did not have to approve for them to build the pipeline.”(Sundeen) What is the point in asking the Natives for their opinion about their land if their opinion does not even matter? Mark Sundeen, an American author and writer of “What’s happening in standing rock?” took a quote that he heard from a Native American Activist. “When we need help they say we are sovereign,” said Mosssett, “but when it comes to the development of resources oil, gas, coal, uranium, water-then they step in see how much money the state can get.”(Sundeen) This proves the government does not care enough about the native’s rights to their land and resources. It is not like the government can just take what they want like oil, uranium, or coal from another country, such as Italy. So, the government should not be able to go into the Native American’s land and just take what they want and leave. Period, the Natives Americans need to be treated as agreed upon by the government and the government needs to see them as a legit sovereign
