A system of government people looked to throughout history in hopes of finding peace is communism. The idea of socialism, which contained important fundamentals that would later evolve into communism, was formed by Karl Marx. After learning the ideas of past revolutionaries, Vladimir Ilich Lenin took Karl Marx's idea and developed it into a form of communism, becoming a national leader and putting his ideas into action (Dagger 1). Lenin's ideas, based off Marx's predictions, were that in order to obtain world peace nobody should own anything, and everything should be shared so everybody has access to what they need, and nobody has too much (Dagger 1).

The ideas of communism were first thought of in simpler forms by people of religious backgrounds trying to obtain a life without so many material possessions (Dagger 1). These ideas were greatly changed and adapted to the point where communism now denies religion entirely. One of those factors is the loss of a need for religion, money, owned property, and possessions. The idea that everybody has access to everything they need is emphasized in communism. Sharing is a major aspect of communism, as the word communism comes from Communis-the Latin word meaning shared (Dagger 1). One goal of communism stated that in order to bring peace, private property must be abolished to cut down on competition between people (Engels). Eventually the communist leaders hoped to see the influence of communism spread across the globe, becoming a single government of peace (Engels). A lifestyle change was required in this system of government and everyone must take part. Communism was supposed to be a government ensuring peace, but it never worked out that way, and communism as Marx and Lenin believed could exist has never truly
