Next To Normal Play Analysis

On October 1st I attended a play entitled “Next to Normal” with my ACAD class. I enjoyed seeing everyone outside of class, including the teachers. I feel like eating with everyone was a bonding experience. One only eats with people they are close too, and I believe that was the case this October. I decided to go because I thought it would be a good experience to speak with other students and teachers in a non-academic setting. The play was interesting, and truly pulled the viewer into its world, that being said, I did not particularly enjoy the production. It did not meet my expectations. Only humans are capable of such artistic expression. Theater and dance feed the soul and contribute so much to society. I learned that not everyone likes to see the ending. Many people left at the intermission, and I did not understand. Once I have invested my time in any plot, I must see it through to the end. Also, leaving in the middle is rude to the actors who have practiced countless hours for their final performance. The event did not really help or hinder my transition into college. I have seen plays before and I will see them again. I would attend another play at The University of Memphis, but it would have to be a play I think I would enjoy seeing. I think my transition to college life has gone very well. I did not realize how unhappy I was in highschool until I became happy in college. I have made many good (and hopefully life long) friends this semester. I have truly grown as a person and I can feel the level of my confidence rising every day. I really can do the things I have always wanted to (with a little help of course). I am very happy I chose to attend The University of Memphis, it is the exact place I need to be. I shadowed a Physical Therapist last week, and now have peace about my current major and career path. Life is
