Should big companies, like Nike, buy products that are produced by children. Child labor is when children, under the age of 18, work at jobs with harsh conditions. The U.S should buy products from companies that have child labor because it is how children in poverty provide for their family, children who would get fired would get into other bad jobs, and although child labor is under harsh conditions, companies are trying to fix this. If the U.S would stop buying products from companies that have child labor, the children making the money would not be able to provide for their family. For families in third and second world countries, there is no other way to make money than having your children work. “The main cause for children doing work is poverty – their survival and that of their families depend on it” (Faulmuller 3). Children need a way to provide for their family. As many people that can, have to work in a family to thrive in some countries. People will do almost anything for money, or survive at that. Children who need to support their family could get jobs that would not benefit them in the long run. According to Nadira Faulmuller of Oxford University, she states “There is nothing else than to vehemently fight against ‘work’ that goes along with gross abuse like forced labour, prostitution, involvement in drug trafficking, carrying heavy weights or any other activity putting a child’s physical or mental wellbeing in danger”. If children get fired from their job (because of child labor), they will go to other jobs that will not be better than their jobs before.
