Strong leadership is essential to all public and nonprofit sector organization success. All aspects of these different sectors require strategic and smart, planning and leadership. The leader needs to make sure the organization or governing body is a well oiled machine. Effectiveness and efficiency is of extreme importance. Arguably, leaders in nonprofit organizations have more of a burden of pressure. Nonprofit leaders play a huge role in the success of their organization. Their mission statement in its entirety is, “United Way improves lives by mobilizing the caring power of communities around the world to advance the common good.” Brian Gallagher has done a great job upholding this mission statement. In their most recent successes under the leadership of Gallagher, United Way has built 600 classrooms in the Philippines; trained 8,000 people for in-demand jobs in Cincinnati, Ohio; and distributed 50,000 mosquito nets in Uganda. They have also helped increase the graduation rate in the Vallejo City Unified School District increase by 11 percent in just three years. Local branches are responsible for putting on their own programs (Our mission, 2015). One example of this comes from North Carolina where they honored local heroes. The United Way director said that “the real hears are the hometown heroes who are active in the community.” They are active with the local community (Fohner, 2015). His main areas he specializes in and focus’s on is sustainable growth in emerging economies by using public and private partnerships to provide unity to create long-term sustainability and success. In 2014, United Way teamed up with Coinbase which is part of the social sector. This has been great for donations for United Way. “United Way Worldwide and Coinbase have entered into a partnership in which donors around the world can contribute to United Way’s Innovation Fund using the bitcoin currency.” This makes it easier for donors to support the causes that matter the most. This is a great new technology that is becoming more popular (United Way Worldwide Teams with Coinbase, 2014). This is one example of a different sector helping out a nonprofit. This is what United Way aims to do. There are examples of where the public sector can contribute. The city of Tupelo Mississippi had their own United Way campaign. Tupelo city employees donated more that $32,000 in 2014 to the United Way branch in Northeast Mississippi. “The city formally kicked of its 2015 United Way campaign by releasing 13 balloons, one for each of the city’s departments.” They had 100% participation from city employees (Moore,
