The ride home for Odysseus was not exactly smooth. It takes Odysseus ten years to get home after the Trojan War and fighting in the Trojan War takes ten years. He was gone for so long that people started believing Odysseus to be dead, so suitors from all around tried to woo Odysseus’s wife Penelope all while taking his kingdom and Athena warned him that, “Numerous suitors, believing Odysseus to be dead, have been continually seeking the hand of his wife, Penelope, in marriage, while over running Odysseus’ palace and enjoying themselves at Penelope’s expense,” (Odyssey 595).
