And when it rains in the winter, we'll just say the hell with goin' to work, and we'll build up a fire in the stove and set around it an' listen to the rain comin' down on the roof.” This simple dream enlightens hope to George and Lennie’s life. Especially Lennie, all he thinks about until the end is tending the rabbit. Once for a time they are almost going to achieve it. However several characters complicate the dream and finally cause the tragedy. Nonetheless, their effect might have different reasons which are not really right or wrong. Therefore, in regards to the issue of complication, the problem is caused by Curley and Curley’s wife. In the book Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck, Curley is a specific antagonist in the whole story. Curley is the boss’s son, and he is a skillful boxer who hates big guys. She is an optimistic but lonely lady. The way she can express her feeling to others is talking to the men in the farm. However, as George defines her, she will bring them in trouble. As expected, Curley’s wife finds out that Lennie is a good person to communicate because he is so naive and has no hostility to her.
