While reading chapter four I found it to be very interesting that the model utilized at my employer is the oldest nursing model. I would identify the model utilized at my employer as the total patient care/case model. Prior to reading this chapter I just assumed this model of care was utilized in every hospital. Finkelman describes the total patient care model as when a nurse cares for all of an individual needs and care during their shift (Finkelman, 2012). That is how our unit is run. Our hospital is very small and the nurse assigned to the patient provides all the cares such as, bathing, medications, physical activity, wounds care, and attending to the families needs.
