Runners and health experts have long debated if running on a treadmill is better for you than running over ground in a traditional manner. Many individuals who are working to improve their cardiovascular health and endurance opt for the latter as it is the way homosapiens have been exercising for thousands of years, and it has been proven to be safe and efficient. Unfortunately, there are some individuals who are unable to run outside and over ground due to their living conditions. For example, runners in extreme winter climates are unable to run outside safely and often resort to running on a treadmill to get their cardiovascular training in. Within the realm of exercise and physical health, this is a hot topic that has sparked some major research studies that try to

Sinclair discovered that individuals had a larger range of motion in the hip joint if they were running over ground and a smaller range of motion if they were running on a treadmill. These discoveries were found when he placed a reflective marker on the greater trochanter of the hip and calculated the amount of vertical hip displacement during the stride of each individual that was tested. These findings concluded that there was also going to be a variation in the displacement of the hip. Sinclair’s findings were substantial because it gave people who are concerned with energy consumption, a reason that it was being used so fast. By having more vertical hip displacement, more energy is wasted and not used during the
