Scenario and tasks
Scenario - Your company has just employed a number of new science technicians. You have been asked to prepare support materials for them that will describe and explain the properties and trends in group 1 and group 7 elements. The support materials are to be given out to the new employees as an introduction to the elements that the company uses in its manufacture of chemical products.

Task 1:
You will be investigating the physical and chemical properties of the group 1 and 7 elements and identifying and explaining trends. Carry out 2 experiments and produce tables describing the following:
• The chemical properties of the elements in group 1, e.g. reaction with water
• The chemical properties of the elements in group 7, e.g. the displacement reactions between the group 7 elements and halide salts (p1)
• Research the physical properties, of the elements, e.g. boiling points, melting points, electrical conductivity, solubility in water,
