While recalling experiences from my past history in nursing, I can recall many situations of being a patient advocate. The role of patient advocate is crucial part of a nurse’s job. Being a patient advocate means to speak up for our patients. Nurses should always respect patients wishes and advocate those wishes.
The memory I recall is about a patient whom had bad test results. The doctor came in and dump off bad news. Didn’t give the patient time to think of questions and where to go next. I was in the room with the patient at the time. The doctor didn’t give the patient an option on different treatments. He just walked out of the room and said he be back tomorrow to see if she want to go with the one option or nothing at all. I was so shock
