In “People Like Us,” David Brooks argues that do people really care about diversity? David Brooks’ claim is useful because it sheds light on the fact that people don’t really care about diversity, which is why people are grouped and segregated today. Diversity is a large subject and it can't be solved over night. For this "problem" to be acted upon on people have to work together to find a solution. In fact, if people cared about diversity they wouldn’t be in the groups they are in now and just talk about it, they would act on it.

We mentally ask our selves almost everyday do we and the people around us care about diversity? Do we look at the world around us and think why isn't this group or that place more diverse? Some people might say that these thoughts are just "human nature" (Brooks "People Like Us"). And others think that we acquire these thoughts over time by being involved in activities or daily routine that involve the same group of people like you or me. The Internet is calling it #OscarsSoWhite. I don't think this is being handled properly because it is being blown out of proportion. The public and for the most part the African American community are stating that there aren't enough diverse people nominated. What I think about that is if they weren't nominated then they did not out perform the other nominees. And then you have people who stick this as a sign of disrespect. Which I don't agree with. Going back to the other statements before this, the Oscars are suppose to be an open platform. White, black, and Hispanic it doesn't matter.
