Personal Narrative: First United Methodist Church

While researching nearby religious institutions to select from for writing this paper, there was one that came to my mind almost immediately. As a Christian myself, and more specifically a Lutheran, there is one major factor that fascinates me the most about my religion- the fact that there are numerous denominations of Christianity, each having their own unique sets of beliefs, interpretations, and practices. In fact, this is something that interests me about all religions. It amazes me that there is so much religious variety in this modern era we live in. With that in mind, I chose to visit a church in downtown Glendale called First United Methodist Church. My goal was to gain an understanding of the differences between it and my denomination, and to analyze, comprehend, and ultimately respect what they choose …show more content…
First United Methodist Church is located on 7102 N 58th Dr, in Glendale and is a beautiful church with a style that reminded me of many Gothic European churches, only on a much smaller scale. My sister and I visited on Sunday the 15th and attended the 9:00 a.m. service. The service started with the pastor greeting everyone and then by having some announcements. A woman and two girl scouts who were going through some Bible study classes, came up and talked for a while. After this, we were told to rise and then proceeded to partake in a responsive song between the congregation and the pastor. A hymn was sung after this, and then a prayer was said. We then sat down, and the children in the congregation came up and the woman who was up front at the beginning of the service talked and asked questions to the children.
