Personal Narrative: Improving Reading And Writing Skills

Before my first day of developmental reading and writing class, I was apprehensive and I was very excited. I was excited to improve my reading and writing skills. I was apprehensive; because on occasion, I would have to wear my Durham police uniform to class. I remember the morning when I was working with the Durham Police Department and I had to wear my police uniform to class. I had butterflies in my stomach and I was sweating. It appeared that everyone was looking at me with wide eyes, also I was approached by Durham Technical Community College security personnel. I was relieved; when, I did not sense from my instructor and my classmates biases. I was able to improve my reading and writing skills, write a research paper, and present an oral presentation with lack of difficulty and with encouragement from them.

Because, of the patience and guidance of my instructor, I am now more confident in my reading and writing skills; therefore, I decided to test my improved writing skills by writing my research paper without assistance from my classmates. It was challenging constructing an outline, starting a thesis with answering a question, and recognizing comma splices. I was prepared for the challenge of creating a research paper on the topic of technology
