Personal Narrative: My Interview With A Teacher

For my interview I talked to a former teacher of mine by the name of Vickie Kimmel. While I only had Mrs.Kimmel for a short month during summer school my seventh grade year she left a lasting impression on me, and is one of my favorite teachers I ever had. Vickie Kimmel has become and family friend of mine, she was more than willing to help me and sit down for an interview. Vicki Kimmel grew up on a military base in Germany, and has been a teacher for 32 years. She has taught at three different schools: Englewood Academy Kansas City and Fort Osage (where she just recently retired from). She decided to put her baby first and give up going to law school. For Vickie it was a no brainer she couldn’t go to school and she already had what she needed to be a teacher so teach she did. I asked her some basic questions just to get started: what she liked and disliked most about teaching and even where she wanted to teach if she could. Vicki told me she would love to teach in Europe preferably Germany as she grew up there and wanted to go back. Mrs.Kimmel helped me realize that while teaching may not be my first choice I love working with kids and that I should have considered becoming a teacher before I did because even though I didn’t always have amazing teachers the ones I had like Mrs.Kimmel and a few others that make me think that teaching is a possibility for me. Mrs.Kimmel has been an amazing help is helping me realize more to teaching that just what you see on the surface between all the rules and paperwork that you might not expect.
