The ideal America is different for everyone. The hope of opportunity for immigrants in this nation along with the freedom of speech, religion, choice, etc. is a very welcoming message. As a nation of all types of people we have all types of ideas. Some people want change and others wanted stuff to stay the same. Most people would say that our nation as grown in a positive direction while others may not. It has been apparent that there have been good and bad changes in rights, economy, government and many, many more. Its also obvious that we will keep improving and improving hitting bumps in the road along the way. While we have made good progress there will always be things to improve upon. During those years companies and industries boomed. Producing products was a thing of the pass. And long work weeks were a regular. Lower skilled jobs gave a lower pay, but when that's the only job available for you in the new city then that's what you’re stuck with. The pay during that time was so low and the jobs for skilled artisans were so few that the work force started decaying into poverty. Soon they needed the women to work at mills along with the children just to make enough money to keep a family from starving. Ghettos grew larger as more and more people had nowhere to go and so slums were strewn in already packed urban areas creating life for those miserable. While on the other hand the company owners and wealthy grew even wealthier off the profit that the factories and industries could create. As the wealthy got wealthier and the poor or even the working class got poorer, the government didn’t step in. It took effort from those who wanted reform to show how bad of a dilemma they were in. Muckraking media, and masses of reformers finally got the government to make a change and attempt to eliminate as much of the problem as it could. This was called the Progressive Era. Multiple conflicting point of views and people that don’t care to listen to others opinions has created very violent protests like recently in Charleston and deadly riots such as those a little while ago in Texas. We have citizens who don’t trust those who protect us and before too long we will be in total chaos if it isn’t stopped. Everyone believes that their ideal american is the right america and the best america. I feel this is where Democracy comes in to level the playing field. While we have chaos, if we sort it out as country and come to a peaceful solution that people tolerate then we can end most of this. At this time and realistically speaking, the situation the nation is in makes it hard for authority to gain control. We have Universities creating safe spaces for those who haven’t matured, others who think free speech and free press is ruining their lives, our nation's civil servants and war veterans who are getting disgraced for standing up for the United States, and people who think they don’t have to work and earn
