Personal Narrative: When You Are The Best Soccer Player

Everyday on the bus, Kim Watson sat next to her best friend, Alice. She also plays soccer, and she too had been at it all her life. That particular day on the ride to school, Alice was trying to bring up Kim’s confidence by saying things like, “It was not your fault,” and, “You are the best soccer player I know.” Although, as hard as Alice tried, none of that helped boost her friend’s spirits. In Kim's defense, phrases like that had been what she heard from her mom all through the weekend. It has been four years and still, it was the same team. Girls left, and girls came, but it was still the original group. That’s why not making it was hard for her. Kim had been playing soccer all her life, from Kinder Kicks to Club and town to school. She needed to take deep breaths or else her shaky knees and arms would make her collapse. She walked over to the field after school with Alice, and they were both ready to kick some soccer butt. The coach blew the whistle and the tryouts began. First the girls had to warm up and stretch. After that, they worked on ball handling and solo skills. Last they finished with drills and the oh-so-famous scrimmage. The coaches split the girls up into four teams, two games going on at once. For Kim’s game, she started at the position left defense, which was fine for her, but she knew where she needed to play at to impress the coaches. The first games finished and the teams rotated; she was now the striker. She again could play this location too, but it wasn't where she was the most comfortable. One more rotation and she was finally at the position she was born to play, right midfield. It was like a breath of fresh air after exiting a cheese shop, for Kim and she knew that it was her time to
